Wallaroos stage stunning come back at Women’s Rugby World Cup

The Wallaroos staged a stunning come from behind 14-12 win against Scotland in the second pool match at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

It was a vital win for the Australians, who went down to the Black Ferns last weekend and were desperate to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

Scotland went into halftime with a handy 12-0 lead, but the Wallaroos came out strong in the second half to keep the defensive pressure on.

It wasn’t until the 60th minute that Bienne Terita went over for the Australians, with a conversion from Lori Cramer putting the Wallaroos within striking distance.

A penalty going the Wallaroos way at the 70 minute mark set them on the attack with Ashley Marsters crossing the line and the reliable Cramer converting giving the Wallaroos a 14-12 lead.

Just three minutes later Marsters was handed a red card, with another penalty against the Wallaroos seeing Adiana Talakai also shown the red card.

As play continued into injury time and the Wallaroos playing two women down, they rallied together to maintain their strong defensive effort to hold off Scotland and secure their first win of the World Cup.

The Wallaroos will meet Wales in the final pool match of the Women’s Rugby World Cup next Saturday 22 October at 12:15pm AEDT.
