SPA Welcomes New Screen Australia CEO Deirdre Brennan – Today, Screen Producers Australia (SPA) congratulates Deirdre Brennan as the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Screen Australia.
Deirdre has a wealth of experience within local and international screen sectors, having held numerous executive roles in different parts of our industry, giving her invaluable insight into improving the sustainability and growth of Australia’s unique screen industry.
“Deirdre has long been a friend of SPA, our members, and SCREEN FOREVER, having served on the Australian conference’s Advisory Board and participated on numerous occasions as a panellist and market participant.
“We look forward to working with Deirdre and Screen Australia closely as she assumes this role.
“There is much work to be done to address the decline of stability for our sector’s local screen businesses and creators, given the increasing challenge of unreasonable commissioning deals and difficulty retaining intellectual property in the works that we create.
“However, this is also a time of optimism and opportunity for the sector, with industry seeking to work closely with Screen Australia and the Federal Government to help generate the right policies, research, and programs to deliver sustained growth, a stronger and clearer global brand and to develop and enhance export earnings, soft diplomacy, and the cultural returns that screen content delivers to our nation and its citizens.
“It is time to set a clear and joined-up strategy for the future of film, television and games content that sees local production grow and be rewarded for its risks and efforts.
“We also take this opportunity to thank Graeme Mason for his contributions to the Australian screen industry during his time as the CEO of Screen Australia, as we welcome Deirdre into the role,” said SPA CEO Matthew Deaner.
