Screen Forever 2023 – Screen Producers Australia (SPA) today announced another not to be missed In Conversation session with Nationals Senator Perin Davey and Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, as they dissect the impact of the Government’s National Cultural Policy on the screen industry on day two of SCREEN FOREVER 37 from 3 – 5 May 2023, on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
Karl Quinn, respected Senior Culture Writer at The Age and Sydney Morning Herald, will lead the conversation with both senators and focus on the critical role the Senate will play in the Parliamentary debate and vote on the Government’s proposed streaming services regulation that will be legislated later this year.
The Australian Greens and Nationals have both been strong supporters of the Australian screen industry, with both Senators being the relevant spokespeople for their respective parties as well as having a detailed understanding of screen industry issues, including streaming service regulation.
Senator Sarah Hanson-Young is the chair of a current Senate Environment and Communications References Committee inquiry into the National Cultural Policy and Senator Perin Davey is a member of this committee.
Senator Perin Davey is also Co-Chair of the Friends of the Screen Industry Parliamentary Group and has a history in the creative industries.
Note that Minister for the Arts, Hon Tony Burke MP will also attend the 21st Annual SPA Awards taking place on the Gold Coast on Friday, 05 May 2023, joining screen industry professionals from across Australia and the globe at the ceremony, recognising the best of content produced by SPA members and champion the outstanding screen productions of Australia’s world-class production businesses.
