Wonders Of The Moon With Dara Ó Briain on SBS and SBS on Demand S1E1 – Writer, comedian and astronomy enthusiast Dara Ó Briain explores the mysteries and mind-blowing science behind the moon.
The moon rules our lives in more ways than you might think. In this series, amateur astronomer Dara Ó Briain meets some of the world’s top lunar experts and meets the scientists and engineers working on the next generation of lunar explorers. He explores the myths inspired by the moon, the way it influences our tides and tempers, and even meets someone who may one day become Europe’s first moon walker.
Episode One:
Dara begins his journey at Newgrange – a Stone Age site covered in mysterious markings that could make it one of the oldest lunar calendars on Earth. Then he travels to the coasts of Kent to meet astrobiologist Professor Lewis Dartnell, who explains how important the Moon’s pull on the Earths tides has been to evolution. Plus, if the Moon can affect life on Earth, can it directly affect people, as many believe? Dara meets Dr. Rohin Francis to dig deeper into the myths surrounding the Moon’s influence on human behaviour.
