By the turn of the 18th century, colonial Britain had already claimed land stretching nearly the full length of the east coast of North America.
The ‘Thirteen Colonies’ of European settlers were eager to evolve west despite the Proclamation Line of 1763 forbidding expansion past the Appalachian Mountains. Rebellion against British rule would lead to the American Revolution with victory for the colonies.
Series One, Episode One: The Discovery of A Land
As the former British Colonies on the east coast became the United States of America, their sights were now set on what lay west. A ludicrously good land deal with France unlocks a vast wilderness seemingly open for the taking. This was the frontier.
