Reyka on SBS – In 1994 South Africa, a multiracial couple’s daughter is kidnapped. She escapes, and as an adult she becomes a detective.
Haunted by her past, the flawed but brilliant criminal profiler investigates a string of brutal murders committed by a serial killer amongst the sugarcane fields of KwaZulu-Natal. Reyka stars Kim Engelbrecht, Iain Glen and Anna-Mart van der Merwe.
Series One, Episode Five:
Nandi is attacked by the killer and is a hair’s breadth away from losing her life.
Her family and colleagues keep vigil at her hospital bed willing her to regain consciousness. A police raid on the worker compound results in Soda being taken into custody.
He is interrogated by a vengeful Samuel, who allowed Nandi to leave his protection, and Soda seems to be set up as prime suspect. When a police informer comes forward to ID Soda it starts to look as though Samuel’s instincts are right.
But Reyka believes they have arrested an innocent man, and when Speelman starts to give her advice on the case, she knows they have the wrong man.
