AFL Finals first week scores 5.45 million viewers on Seven – The 2023 AFL Finals Series has kicked goals on the Seven Network, with the first week of Finals reaching 5.45 million broadcast viewers.
Thursday night’s first elimination final between Collingwood and Melbourne recorded the biggest AFL national audience this year and was the #1 program last week in people 16 to 39.
Seven’s live and free coverage of the match was watched by 1.09 million broadcast viewers nationally, peaking at 1.41 million viewers, and dominated its timeslot in all people, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.
The high-stakes game was up 87.4% on the 2023 regular season Thursday night average and reached 3.18 million people nationally.
Seven was #1 nationally in prime time on Thursday with a commanding 49.7% commercial audience share in all people, 50.7% in 25 to 54s and 57.3% in 16 to 39s.
Melbourne’s average audience was up 67% on the 2023 regular season to-date, while the Sydney audience soared 143% and Brisbane was up 110%.
Friday night’s elimination final between Carlton and Sydney Swans at the MCG reached 3.03 million people.
Carlton’s thrilling victory over the Swans was #1 in its timeslot in total people, 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s and scored an average 1.08 million viewers nationally.
Seven was #1 in prime time on Friday with an unbeatable 50.7% commercial audience share in the capital cities in total people, 50.5% in 25 to 54s and 51.2% in 16 to 39s.
Saturday night’s showdown between Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide reached 2.51 million viewers and had an average national audience of 823,000 viewers. It was the #1 program of the night in 25 to 54s and 16 to 39s.
Seven’s AFL Finals coverage captured 70% of the overall AFL TV audience across the four games, including 75% of all viewers in regional Australia.
Seven’s AFL coverage helped power Seven to a dominant weekly win across the week ending 9 September, with an unrivalled 45.1% commercial share across all people nationally and marking Seven’s ninth week in a row as the most-watched network.
