Tune in for another inspiring episode of My Way as we uncover four Queenslanders following their passion and making their dreams a reality, this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Viewers catch up with Sunshine Coast father and free-diver Adam Sellars, who found that corporate life was taking a toll on his mental health. A day spearfishing with a mate led to a profound love for the ocean where he found freedom from his negative thoughts. Now a certified freediving instructor, he’s teaching others to let go of the pressures of life while learning about the pressures of the ocean instead.
Next, we anchor into the life of Kevin Dick who left high school to become a shipwright, spending every day building boutique boats. Decades later, in retirement, he embarked on a new nautical adventure: building conceptual sculptures based on marine life, and after opening his well-known Noosaville gallery, Kellick Marine Concepts, Kevin says he’s never been happier.
Don Kayes has always had a love of gemstones and pearlescent rocks fostered by day trips out fossicking with his father as a child. But it wasn’t until he went into a career as a boilermaker that he realised his heart belonged back at the family business, Rockhampton’s Mt Hay Gemstone Tourist Park. Now, 42 years later and with his wife and kids by his side, the family business is still thriving, allowing travellers to fossick for stones, visit the gift store, enjoy a workshop, or camp onsite.
Finally we meet chef Mel Alafaci from Vanilla Zulu, who after growing up in Zimbabwe with a love of cooking spent years travelling the world, gaining an array of culinary skills and a keen appreciation of the flavours of different cultures. After leaving the political tensions of her homeland behind for a life in Australia, Mel turned a sour situation sweet, opening a Brisbane-based cooking school to share the tips on how to cook with happiness and the recipes picked up on her global food journey.
