Livinia Nixon takes viewers on a great Greek tour of the CBD (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). She begins at the Hellenic Museum, Australia’s only museum dedicated to Greek art, history and culture, with curator Sara Prica, looking at the current exhibition: “Gods, Myths and Morals”.
Then she heads to the popular strip between Swanston and Russell Street known as Little Greece. Melbourne institution Stalactites is her second stop, before visiting Fable, a rooftop bar and restaurant in the Greek Community Building, where she enjoys a cocktail and a chat with Monique Dignan-Smith, the marketing manager.
Lauren Phillips goes for a stroll down Swan Street in Richmond (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) with Sean Reynolds, a Ghost Sign hunter. They delve into the suburb’s past, uncovering famous old signs like the Monopole Cigar above the Burnley Barber Shop.
Later, Lauren meets the bakers behind Co.Bake Space, Alisha Henderson and Alice Bennett, who provide a unique pop-up and pick-up space for bakers.
The day ends at Clover, a neighbourhood bistro and wine bar with a French-leaning menu and tantalising wine list.
Kris Smith is checking out hidden gems in the Airport West industrial area (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). He finds a converted warehouse on Fraser Street which is now Bola Bake, a cafe known popular for its Korean-inspired sandwiches and delicious pastries and sweets.
Up the road at Roasting Warehouse, a state of the art roasting facility and cafe, he chats with director George Paraskevopolus over a coffee. Kris’s last destination for the day is Halsey Road Vintage Emporium, a massive warehouse filled with vintage furniture and collectibles, a thrifter’s idea of heaven.
And Todd Woodbridge catches up with Kate Ceberano for a tour of her favourite places to wine and dine. At Supernormal on Flinders Lane they sample lobster rolls and scallops, before heading to Melbourne Town Hall where Kate’s concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will be held on September 28. They wind up at Guy Grossi’s Florentino with a drink at the Cellar Bar.
