Postcards on Channel 9 – Join the Postcards team this week as they continue to discover the best of Melbourne’s suburbs and bayside, Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Shane Delia heads west to Melton (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) and stops into Melton Men’s Shed, where he meets some local members and learns more about the men’s shed and the community they have built. Back in the heart of town, he finds Latin Foods and Wines and enjoys some tasty traditional Latin American dishes, while meeting the owners, husband and wife duo Marco and Maria De La Plaza.
We find Livinia Nixon exploring the best of the ’burbs in Pascoe Vale South (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). She gets her caffeine fix and a delicious breakfast at Emil’s Cafe, over a chat with the owners John and George El-Khoury. Then she’s off to Sunroom Studios for a pottery-making class, before ordering some authentic Italian gelato at Miinot Gelato crafted by owner Emma Nicholas-Jennings using fresh and natural ingredients.
Meanwhile, Brodie Harper visits the bayside suburb of Mount Eliza (Boonwurrung Country).
The quirky and cosy local favourite Velos Mazeh Musette Cafe catches her eye, and after a word with owner Sam Cox she zips doors down to Butterken Bakery a few doors away. It’s owned by German baker Hendrik Roessman and his Aussie partner Anita Seferian, who are passionate about bringing German bread culture to Melbourne. A short walk across the street is the internationally renowned gallery, Baluk Arts, the only Aboriginal arts centre in Victoria’s south-east.
And Madeline Spark is exploring more of Melbourne’s laneways (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). She wanders down Niagara Lane to the Japanese-inspired Tori’s bakery to check out their decadent mix of artisan cakes and desserts. Further along the lane she pops into Wilkins & Kent, a popular furniture design and gift store. Madeline then wraps up in Warburton Lane at Myrtle Wine Bar, a cosy space that celebrates native produce and Australian wines
