Postcards on Channel 9 – Join the Postcards team this week as they check out Melbourne’s newest staycation hotspot as well as the enticing places to enjoy a sandwich and a glass of wine, at 5.30pm Sunday on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Kris Smith is in Flinders Lane in the city at the new Adina Apartment Hotel Melbourne, checking out the multi-million-dollar refurbishment it has just undergone (in Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). From the luxurious penthouse to the stunning two-bedroom apartments, Kris gives viewers a grand tour of Melbourne’s new staycation hot spot. Afterwards he takes viewers to Eau De Vie, an award-winning bar nearby, for a drink with the venue manager, Lucy Brinicombe-Pauls.
Madeline Spark takes a walk up busy Victoria Street, which borders North Melbourne, West Melbourne, the CBD and Carlton (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country). She starts at The Flour, west of Peel Street, with some tasty baked goods and a coffee, then passes Queen Victoria Market and Melbourne City Baths en route to lunch at Panda Hot, known as Melbourne’s biggest Chinese hot pot destination.
To end her big day out she heads back towards North Melbourne for a drink at Willows & Wine and a chat with the owner, Amy Poonian.
We find Livinia Nixon in Yarraville (Boonwurrung Country) checking out the shops and restaurants. At Jimmy’s Deli, a continental deli that offers New York-style sandwiches, she meets Thierry Amanatidis who owns this spot and co-owns the restaurant next door, Eleni’s Kitchen & Bar, an authentic Greek restaurant, with her sister Anatoli. After stopping at Eleni’s, Livinia pops into the Railway Hotel across the road, which has been open since 1938 and serves top-rate modern pub food.
Meanwhile, 10km south-west of the CBD, Todd Woodbridge is in Newport (Boonwurrung Country), catching up with owner of the well-known Greenwich Deli, Johnny Moroney, and tucking into one of his signature sandwiches. He then explores the Newport Railway Museum, which champions the bygone days of Newport, with volunteer history guide John Hawthorne, before topping the day off with wine and a cheese board at The Fifth Wine Bar.
