Recap | Married at First Sight Season 12 Episode 22 – the latest episode recap on TV Central from Channel 9. Watch the show on 9Now.

With the experiment’s halfway mark well behind us, it’s time for the couples to pack their bags, spread their wings and… turn even the tiniest of tensions into ticking time bombs!

Heck yeah, it’s Couples Retreat time!

Before everyone heads to Byron Bay for some fun, sun and – we can only assume – drama, Carina and Paul debrief about their confronting night on the Commitment Ceremony couch.

Paul faced the possibility of being kicked out of the experiment, but can continue with help from services that share de-escalation strategies.

They’re now prepared to move forward, although Carina needs Paul to prove himself before she can fully trust him again.

While Awhina and Adrian are looking for a fresh start following their tough night and uh, even tougher week, Awhina’s controversial decision to ‘stay’ has been overshadowed by something even more baffling to the other couples:

Lauren’s criticism of Clint washing dishes and folding laundry.

“He’s trying to take care of her and she’s complaining about it. I was gobsmacked by that,” Jeff tells Rhi.

Then, it’s time for everyone to grab their linen and Google Chris Hemsworth’s whereabouts – because Byron Bay, here we come!

EXCLUSIVE: Evelyn and Duncan react to Paul’s admission at the fourth Dinner Party

The only one who is not excited is Lauren.

”Awhina’s going to be screaming, her nylon hair extensions are going to be blowing in the wind,” she rudely scathes. “Adrian’s probably going to be attempting to speak.”

Clint awkwardly giggles while secretly sharing his excitement for hanging out with everyone, whether his wife deems them “boganic” or not.

First things first… a running race! That’s sure to endear them to Lauren!

“I feel like racing to try and get a bedroom is embarrassing for your soul,” she reacts, but that was before she realises she and Clint are officially assigned the smallest room in the house.

The girls are shocked by one bride’s X-rated confession

“Ryan really cares about training all the time. He only wants to have sex if he’s not training… he wants to ‘save his [testosterone]’,” she explains.

The women are… perplexed.

MAFS 2025 Beth
WHAT. (Nine)

As they get ready for a night of welcome drinks, they all debrief with their husbands. Turns out, it’s not just the women who don’t get it.

Although, Clint admits it’s normally off the cards the night before a golf tournament. And also, mid-round too.

Lauren loves that joke.

MAFS 2025 Lauren
Soooo funnyyyyy. (Nine)

Jacqui, Ryan and Ryan’s cardigan are in a great place – so it would be a shame for something to screw that up…

The vibes are high as everyone enjoys a drink around a campfire, and Jamie has a huge bombshell to share.

“I told him I loved him,” she whispers to Beth and Veronica, after gushing about how bloody perfect Dave is.

EXCLUSIVE: Tony reveals exactly when he knew things wouldn’t work out with Morena after their dramatic exit from the experimentPlay Video

Jamie admits she ‘loves’ Dave

With that delightful news out of the way, she’s ready to get back to important matters.

Like ridiculing Ryan choosing his workout over his wife.

The group all laugh as poor Ryan and his cardigan look horrified.

He tries to explain his reasoning and absolutely no one is having it.

MAFS 2025 Veronica, Carina, Rhi and Jeff
HAHAHA. (Nine)

Ryan claims he wants to keep their sex life private (except for when he’s talking about it at workshops, lunch with their friends and Commitment Ceremonies), so he pulls Jacqui aside for a discussion.Play Video

Ryan tells the group he’s not interested in discussing his intimate life

He says if he is going to trust her, she can’t blurt out details of their sex life – and Jacqui explains that maybe he should also tell himself that.

“I’m only going to say this once. If it happens again, this relationship’s over,” Ryan warns.

Beth interrupts them to mediate, and amongst other things she says: “It seems like you’d rather save your energy for the iron than her…”

The next word is not something I’ll repeat, but it’s one that’s left Ryan spewing.

“C’mon man. Where’s your class? Where is your class, that’s really classless, Beth!” he says to her.

Ryan brands Beth ‘classless’

Back at the group, Teejay doesn’t think Lauren is fair in her assessment of Clint and wants her to explain what exactly she sees as an “alpha male”.

He asks her to describe her definition of that for the group.

”For me, I like to be the homemaker, but I want to be the homemaker for someone who’s out there doing deals and hustling, someone I look up to and I respect,” she explains.

It doesn’t go over very well, as the couples see it as another slight on Clint.

“One thing I will say is don’t come at Loz,” Clint defends.

It’s giving Alpha!

Jamie tries to explain that being masculine doesn’t mean a dude can’t help load the dishwasher.

”Everyone’s literally just spewing garbage, it’s just like a pimple that has endless pus,” Lauren reacts. Ew, that’s a very visceral sentence.Play Video

The groups questions Lauren’s definition of an ‘alpha male’

The next morning, she wakes up with a very bright idea: leaving.

Clint pretends he thinks that’s a great idea.

He thinks removing themselves and having some quiet time together might help advance their relationship.

As everyone else bonds, Rhi checks in to see why Lauren’s removed herself from the group setting and soon, everyone knows she’s about to pack her bags.Play Video

One couple decide they want to leave the experiment in the middle of the Couples Retreat

Although, Lauren tells Rhi it was Clint’s idea.

No one really believes that, seeing him as just supporting her regardless because she’s his wife.

They see Lauren as not making the most of a unique opportunity, which is especially odd after she had such a bad experience with Eliot the first time.

Hell freezes over and pigs are flying through the sky, because Adrian and Jamie come together for a debrief and learn they’re on the exact same page.

What better time to hash this out than with them each bringing it up at tonight’s boys and girls nights?

Before we launch into the Lauren and Clint stuff, Jacqui and Ryan present us with a short detour.

Firstly, laughing at Ryan’s testosterone rule worked a treat, because they had sex this morning.

MAFS 2025 Lauren
Lauren is loving all this sex chat. (Nine)

And secondly, Ryan wants to know whether Teejay is okay with Beth’s, uh, graphic comment about Jacqui and Ryan’s sex life. Teejay fires back Ryan’s workshop comment, and honestly, fair.

But after a ribbing from the boys, Ryan apologises to Teejay for calling his wife classless. It remains to be seen whether he will apologise to the supposed classless one herself.Play Video

Ryan apologises to Teejay for rude comment

OK, back to more pressing matters.

“Why were you thinking about leaving this morning?” Adrian fires at Clint.

EXCLUSIVE: Evelyn and Duncan react to Paul’s admission at the fourth Dinner Party

The men are all skeptical of Clint insisting he and Lauren are on the same page.

“It sounds like she’s doing what I did…” Eliot begins. Touché!

“…But she’s managing you,” he continues.Play Video

The grooms issue Clint with a warning

They want Clint to know he is a great guy and they feel like he’s being taken along for a ride.

Meanwhile, the women tell Lauren similar and question her interest in Clint.

Lauren is less than impressed by their opinions, but also by having to listen to their opinions – and the women are starting to realise that is the case.

MAFS 2025 Jamie
It’s notttt a very productive conversation. (Nine)

”I think Lauren thinks she’s better than us. She acts like she’s the Queen of England, she just looks down her nose at everyone,” Beth says.

And she’s definitely on to something.

“The bogans just keep boganing with their boganic ways,” Lauren reacts, also calling them “feral people”.

MAFS 2025 Lauren
Yikes. (Nine)

Lauren tells them she didn’t sign up to gossip about her relationship with them, prompting an absolute zinger from Awhina: “You had a lot of fun doing it when you were talking about Eliot to all of us”.

Lauren deems the conversation “so boring” and with a final swig of her champers, she leaves.Play Video

Lauren disregards the other brides’ comments about her relationship

“The ice queen cracked,” Beth reacts, as Lauren applies her lip gloss and rants about the “losers” in a dark carpark.

Ah, the Couples Retreat. It always throws up some chaos, doesn’t it?

No doubt there’s plenty more where that came from tomorrow night.
