My Way on Channel 9 – A mountain biking legend, a live music guru, and an underwater filmmaker who loves the Reef showcase the adventurous side of Cairns this week on My Way, Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Glen Jacobs needs little introduction. From bashing around the bush on his bike in Cairns as a teenager to becoming the sole Aussie in the Mountain Biking Hall of Fame, Glen’s journey has been a whirlwind. Glen and his mates decided to put their crazy skills on show in the style of grungy and raw documentaries, which popularised mountain biking across the globe. His wheels have taken him around the world and he has put Cairns on the map as a destination for trail rides.
Thanks to Glen, world-class events are now held in Cairns, such as the World Mountain Bike Championships. And this year Cairns is hosting Crankworx, the stunt spectacular and F1 of mountain biking.
Savannah In The Round isn’t just another music festival – it’s a remarkable showcase of local and international talent. The man behind the sounds is James Dein, a pioneer of the Queensland music scene whose passion for live music is infectious. With tons of expertise, James has turned Savannah In The Round into an unparalleled experience for both performers and audiences as the festival gears up for its fifth anniversary.
We also meet Tom Park, an underwater documentary filmmaker who was drawn to the ocean as a youngster while discovering diving on a family holiday. Tom chose to study law, but the pull of the sea was just too strong and he now spends his days capturing the unseen glory of the ocean. Tom is one of the lucky few who have managed to chronicle the annual coral spawning in the Great Barrier Reef, beautifully capturing this miraculous moment on camera thanks to his great dedication and patience.
