My Way on Channel 9 is off for outback road trip

My Way on Channel 9 – My Way returns for a special road trip to Outback Queensland, showcasing stories from the state’s north-west region, this Saturday at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Join the journey along the Overlanders Way to hear from an Indigenous rodeo legend and a mining veteran, discover a new species of dinosaur, and meet Mt Isa’s biggest fan.

On the first stop in the rodeo capital of Australia, we meet Shilo Gosbee, a rodeo veteran. When not competing he is ushering in the next generation of Indigenous stockmen, teaching them how to rope and ride. Shilo is a rodeo champion, but this year he has set his sights on his son and protege, Cordell, taking home a buckle. Passionate about his love for rodeo, Shilo is dedicated to its future, demonstrating why it is a sport for celebration, community and fun.

No one loves Mt Isa quite like Kylie Rixon, who dropped in one day and is still there 25 years later.

Being such a fan, she channelled her love of the Isa into the Sunset Tourist Park. Here Kylie is on a mission to make her guests fall in love with the town like she did. Her local knowledge and lust for life has turned Sunset Tourist Park into a community hub, offering haircuts, health checks and a top-notch smoko. She can turn your one night layover into a week-long stay.

A trip to Mt Isa is not complete without a visit to the Hard Times Mine with longtime Mt Isa local Alan Rackham. Alan has spent a lifetime working in the Mt Isa mines, but with the foreclosure next year, he had to pivot pathways. With his vast knowledge, experience, humour and charm, he now takes tour groups through the Hard Times Mine to experience a day in the life of a miner. There is no one better to learn from than this loveable larrikin, an Aussie classic who loves every minute of his job.

The final stop is Kronosaurus Korner in Richmond.

Here you’ll find museum curator Kevin Peterson, who made a historic discovery: “The Crash Site”, the most complete and significant pterosaur collection in Australia. His love for the thrill of the chase turned an ordinary day digging into a historic find. Along with palaeontologist Adele Pentland, Kevin is preserving some of the most exciting fossil discoveries in the country. Kronosaurus Korner is open for anyone who wants to put on their palaeontologist hat for a day of digging. Who knows what you might find?

Take a look beyond the mining tunnels of Mt Isa to the characters at the heart of this vibrant community on My Way this Saturday at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
