Grantchester on ABC and ABC iview S9E1 – It’s 1961 and times are changing in Grantchester.
Will has begun to seek new challenges elsewhere, while Geordie and Cathy deal with an independent Esme being free in a dangerous world. It’s not long before Reverend Alphy KoBaram arrives as the new vicar, immediately enchanted by the glorious village. But will the locals ever be able to accept him as one of their own?
EPISODE 1
Carson’s Circus has rolled into town and Will, Geordie and the rest of the Grantchester family are making the trip. They delight in watching mind-bending illusions and death-defying stunts. But the very next morning, one of the performers, Errol Macabre, is found dead, having been shot with a crossbow that was used in a magic trick. Was this a tragic accident caused by a malfunctioning prop?
When Geordie sees that the crossbow has been tampered with, he realises this was no such thing. Someone wanted Errol dead. But with the circus closed and the rest of the performers having alibis
for the time of the murder, who could possibly have done this?
Will is called to meet with the bishop where he is surprised to be offered an opportunity to move to
another parish, one with greater responsibility and challenges. When he mentions this to Geordie, they quickly dismiss it – after all, Will has a great life with Bonnie, along with their family and friends,
here in glorious Grantchester. Why give it all up?
When Bonnie hears of this, she’s affronted that Will has made this decision without her.
She reminds him that they might end up coasting if they stayed here – do they really want to rest on their laurels? Will finds himself torn between staying or going.
Things aren’t too steady at the Keating house either. Mrs C’s presence is starting to grate on the kids
and Geordie is aghast to find her ironing his underpants. Geordie returns home one night to be greeted by the kids. An eager Esme tell him that she’s been offered a job at the offices of Harrison and Sons.
Whilst initially surprised, Geordie is proud of his daughter, now grown-up and independent. He later finds Cathy writing a letter to Harrison and Sons, turning the job offer down on Esme’s behalf. Geordie has to convince Cathy that they need to allow Esme this opportunity.
