FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 on Optus Sport – It’s semi-final time in Australia and New Zealand with the second of two massive nights of football, as Australia take on England at Stadium Australia.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the 28th day of action.

FROM MATCHDAY 27:

  • Spain 2 – 1 Sweden

What’s on today

It’s semi-finals time! We have a massive game live on Optus Sport as two must become one by the end of the day.

Australia vs England (8pm AEST)

Does it get any bigger than this?

In 36 games as England manager Sarina Wiegman has seen her side score 148 times, concede just 14 and lose only once.

Two of those goals and that solitary defeat came against the Matildas in April though, and Australia will take as much heart from that as they took into the France game after beating Les Bleues in a pre-tournament friendly.

With the exception of Kyah Simon, Tony Gustavsson has a full squad to choose from with Sam Kerr now fit, while Wiegman will have to pick her team to get England to the final without the still suspended Lauren James.

If the European champions can rediscover the form that saw them march towards Euro 2022 victory then Australia will have a tough task on their hands but the Matildas are yet to start a game with Sam Kerr yet and that could be all they need to continue the party.

It’s a game you will not want to miss.

Player to watch

Mary Fowler (Australia)

If it wasn’t for some amazing goalkeeping the quarter-final then Mary Fowler would be a contender for the Golden Boot.

Every chance against France seemed to fall to her as she picked up some expert positions but just couldn’t find the back of the net – until she fired home the pick of the penalties in the shootout.

With Sam Kerr likely to return and Caitlin Foord taking a lot of English attention, Fowler could fly under the radar and be the deciding factor in this mammoth semi-final clash.
