From tomorrow, Sunrise co-host David Koch will be live from 5.30am in London for the week, crossing to Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington at Brekky Central each day. They will be joined by royal expert Victoria Arbiter and the King’s biographer Robert Jobson for all the breaking royal news.
A special edition of Weekend Sunrise, hosted by Monique Wright and Matt Doran from 7.00am this Saturday, continues the coronation countdown before 7NEWS Spotlight presenter Michael Usher and former BBC royal correspondent Angela Rippon take the helm from 4.00pm AEST.
After 6.00pm 7NEWS bulletins on Saturday, coverage of the King’s Procession to Westminster Abbey will begin from 7.00pm until late on Channel 7 and 7plus, while Melbourne viewers will shift to 7two from 7.30pm.
Michael and Angela will broadcast from Buckingham Palace, while Kochie and Victoria will be positioned at Westminster Abbey, where the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, will conduct the official Church of England service.
The live broadcast, in association with the BBC, will cover all ceremonial events throughout the day, providing audiences with a front-row seat to the procession and inside the Abbey, before the newly crowned monarchs are presented to the public for the first time from the famed balcony of Buckingham Palace.
7NEWS UK and European bureau chief Hugh Whitfeld and correspondent Sarah Greenhalgh will team with 7NEWS chief reporter Chris Reason, 7NEWS Adelaide co-host Rosanna Mangiarelli and Sunrise reporter Mylee Hogan to deliver the most comprehensive daily royal updates – capturing all the pomp, pageantry and royal family drama from inside Palace circles and beyond.
From 5.30am Monday 8 May, Sunrise will cross live to the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle, before an encore screening in full at 8.30pm nationally on Channel 7 and 7plus.
Seven’s Network Director of News and Public Affairs, Craig McPherson, said:
“The coronation of King Charles III will be a spectacle for the ages.
“To capture the magnitude of this historic event, you must be in and around where it’s taking place. We have the best people in the best spots at Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and across London.
“Being there ensures Australians at home will tune in to the very best coverage,” he said.
