Celebrating our city’s heroes with the Melbourne Awards 2022 on Nine and 9Now

The City of Melbourne’s 2022 Melbourne Awards will be announced this Sunday at 4.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Hosted by Peter Hitchener and Livinia Nixon, the 9News Special: Melbourne Awards 2022 will celebrate the inspirational people who have gone above and beyond to make our city better this year as we’ve emerged from two years of COVID lockdowns.

This year there are 27 extraordinary finalists across eight categories – Arts and Events, Aboriginal Melbourne – ganbu guljin, Community, Hospitality, Sustainability, Urban Design, Knowledge and Innovation and LGBTIQ+.

Peter Hitchener is once again delighted to host this event that celebrates our great city and its wonderful citizens.

“After two years of COVID madness, I’m thrilled that we can come together to recognise the incredible Melburnians who devote their lives to improving the liveability of our marvellous city,” he said.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp said: “There is no greater honour than acknowledging and celebrating the efforts of ordinary Melburnians doing extraordinary things.”

This year’s honours will also feature the prestigious Melburnian of the Year Award, whose previous recipients include leading medical researcher Professor Doug Hilton AO, radiation oncologist and tobacco-free lobbyist, Dr Bronwyn King AO and President of the Richmond Football Club, Peggy O’Neal AO.

For more information on each of the finalists, visit the City of Melbourne website.
