JOHANNA + KAREN – FERMENTATION FUN

Knowledge about gut health has gained in popularity in recent years and it’s no wonder. The advantages of a healthy gut leads to a host of other health benefits. Tonight, Johanna and Karen visit master fermenter Sharon Flynn in Melbourne to learn all they can about this most ancient of food preparation processes. It would be a shame not to make the most of all these wonderful products, so Karen prepares a cold buckwheat noodle with miso dressing and tofu pickle salad using Sharon’s fermented products, of course.

DR HARRY + ADAM – DIY DOG AGILITY COURSE

Dog agility is great for your dog and great for you. While you could find a club to get into the sport, you could also make a course for your own backyard. With this in mind, Dr Harry teams up with our resident builder Adam to build some obstacles from just a few easy to buy and easy to put together components. But the best bit is, Adam’s building this course so it can be packed up and put away. So next time you want to exercise with your dog, keep them stimulated and build a bond between the two of you, all you’ll have to do is go to the backyard.

ED + GRAHAM – PLANT-BASED SPAGHETTI ‘MEATBALLS’

Eating a plant-based diet, doesn’t mean you have to give up on flavour. One of our master chefs Ed, teams up with one of our master gardeners Graham, to cook some of the most delicious meatballs you’ve ever tasted, all without the meat. With some clever meat substitutes and some aromatic herbs, you might just convert to meatless meatballs next time you make spaghetti.

ED + GRAHAM – SWEET TEA SCONES WITH SULTANAS AND CINNAMON

A cup of tea is the perfect complement to a tray of scones. But what if you put the tea into the scones? Not only does the tea add lovely flavour but it also balances out the sweetness in the scones. Mixed with sultanas and cinnamon and served with traditional jam and cream or your favourite condiments and you’ve got a perfect afternoon tea.

GRAHAM – HENLEY GREEN COMMUNITY GARDEN

Built on an old bowling green, the Henley Community Garden is definitely community by name and community by nature. Run by a team of local volunteers who share the workload and share the harvest, it also acts as a fantastic educational tool to the kids of a nearby pre-school who learn about gardening with hands-on experience. Graham also has some handy tips for you to grow you own veggies, regardless of whether you have a garden or not. But while the produce is a great benefit, it’s the connections, new friends and community spirit that really make this garden special.

CHARLIE + JULIET – SUMMER READY BACKYARD

Renovating a backyard from plain to a multi-purpose entertaining and relaxing area for different members of the family is a big job. Thankfully, Charlie and Juliet are the prefect couple to take on this challenge with a blend of style and substance. A pergola will add height to a barbecue entertaining area while the rest of the garden is split into different zones that have something for every member of the family to enjoy. Along with some new plants and tidying up of existing ones, this backyard will soon be ready for summer!

MELISSA + PETE – RAMMED EARTH, REBIRTHED

Tonight, Pete and Melissa are visiting a special house that was designed and built around the only wall left standing after a freak accident burned down a family home in 2012. That wall was made from rammed earth and its resilience inspired them to rebuild the home. But they didn’t just rebuild their old home, they took the opportunity to make some positive changes to the house. Their extensive use of plants not only helped the healing process it also helps to seamlessly bridge the gap between outdoors and indoors. Pete and Melissa take a tour of the house and garden to see the many ways this creative family have improved their lives after their loss.
