ANZAC Day double-header leads a huge week of sport on Seven and 7plus – ANZAC Day double-header leads a huge week of sport. AFL, LIV Golf, The Front Bar, horse racing on Seven, 7plus.
One of the biggest occasions on the AFL fixture takes centre stage on the Seven Network this Thursday, when powerhouses Collingwood and Essendon clash in the annual ANZAC Day match as part of an action-packed week of live and free sport on Seven.
Since their inaugural ANZAC Day match in 1995, the Magpies and Bombers have taken their longstanding rivalry to new heights with an epic series of matches.
Kicking off from 2.00pm AEST on Thursday, Seven will broadcast the full pre-game ceremony live and free, including the traditional ANZAC Day moment of silence and motorcade in front of a packed MCG crowd, before the match coverage kicks off from 3.00pm.
The AFL action will continue into the night on ANZAC Day, when Seven travels to Canberra for the GWS GIANTS v Brisbane Lions clash from 7.00pm AEST live and free on Channel 7 and 7mate.
The AFL’s #1 commentary team will again lead Seven’s coverage this weekend, featuring Brian Taylor, James Brayshaw, Erin Phillips, Luke Hodge, Abbey Holmes, Joel Selwood, Luke Darcy and Matthew Richardson.
Seven’s coverage will also include two men who know ANZAC Day football better than anyone, former Essendon captain Jobe Watson, who played 11 times on the big occasion, and former Collingwood star, Dale Thomas.
The on-field action kicks off tomorrow night, when Melbourne hosts Richmond at the MCG for the ANZAC Day Eve match, live and free on Channel 7 and 7mate from 7.00pm AEST.
Tonight, Andy, Mick and Sam assume their usual positions at The Front Bar from 9.00pm on Seven and 7plus, alongside two of the most significant figures in ANZAC Day match history: former Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy and Collingwood legend Dane Swan.
Then, straight after The Front Bar James Brayshaw, Trent Cotchin, Joel Selwood and Tim Watson will be met by Geelong Cats’ forward Jeremy Cameron, when he joins Talking Footy, before the top-ranked Cats take on Carlton on Saturday afternoon.
Rounding out the Round Seven AFL matches on Seven are:
- Friday Night Footy – Port Adelaide v St Kilda at Adelaide Oval from 7.00pm AEST on Channel 7 and 7mate
- Saturday Night Footy – Fremantle v Western Bulldogs (Len Hall Tribute Game) at Optus Stadium from 7.00pm AEST on Channel 7 and 7mate
Fans in NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia can also watch Round Seven matches involving teams from their home states live and free on Channel 7.
Following Friday night’s contest at Adelaide Oval, Adam Cooney, Cam Luke and Kate McCarthy will settle in on the Armchair Experts sofa to give their unique take on all of the fall-out from the match on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus.
Golf enthusiasts and sports fans alike are in for a treat this week when LIV Golf returns to South Australia live and free on Seven and 7plus.
Across three jam-packed days from Friday, 26 April, viewers can tune in to five hours of daily coverage of Australia’s 54-hole showpiece event – headlined by Aussie superstar Cameron Smith – on Channel 7 and 7mate, as well as live and on-demand streaming on 7plus.
The sport action doesn’t stop there, with five hours of thoroughbred racing live from Australasian Oaks Day at Morphettville and the Victorian Owners and Breeders Race Day at Caulfield, on Saturday, 12.00pm AEST on 7two and 7plus.
Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said:
“With five epic AFL contests over four days – including an ANZAC Day double header – plus the adrenaline-pumping LIV Golf tournament on home soil in South Australia, there is something for everyone this week on Seven.
“There are few more meaningful football moments than when Collingwood and Essendon players run out together for the ANZAC Day match. The game has become one of the AFL’s greatest traditions, on a day when Australians young and old pause to give thanks to the men and women who have served – and continue to serve – our country so bravely.
“Last year gave us with one of the greatest contests ever seen and if Essendon and Collingwood’s last few weeks are anything to go by, we are in for an absolute treat this Thursday, live and free on Seven,” he said.
