ACMA makes guidelines for regulated television devices – The ACMA has today published guidelines for regulated television devices applicable under Australia’s TV prominence framework.
These guidelines explain our approach to assessing whether a device is a regulated television device and therefore must meet the minimum prominence requirements.
The TV prominence scheme is designed to make it easier for Australians to find and access free-to-air TV services and apps on smart TVs and similar devices. It will apply to devices manufactured and supplied from 10 January 2026, and will be administered by the ACMA.
These guidelines aim to assist manufacturers to determine what devices will need to comply with Australia’s TV prominence requirements, and to outline the criteria that the ACMA will use to determine whether a device is caught by the TV prominence framework once it comes into effect.
The ACMA will now shift its focus to developing a compliance and enforcement strategy. We will shortly be reaching out to industry as part of our information gathering and research activities to inform this next phase of work. Read more about our work on TV prominence on the ACMA website.
