Shetland on ABC and ABC iview S8E2 – Calder and Tosh stand over a body, lying in a remote ruin. Tosh sees the hand of organised crime in the murder, but Calder observes some wrinkles in the theory. Is this really the work of experienced criminals?
On the other side of the island, Agnes Moffat’s morning drive is interrupted by a gun-toting Howell standing in the middle of the road. He forces Agnes back to her house to look after the wounded Nowak while they wait for a means of escape.
Tosh and Calder deliver the grim news to the victim’s family. Grief and shock turn into action and Bobby Bain uses his connections to trace a construction worker who may have answers.
Calder regrets her one night stand when Cal becomes a person of interest and uses her as his alibi. Harry questions Calder’s suitability for the case, but Tosh insists on keeping her.
Just as the police trace them to Agnes’ croft, Howell’s escape plan comes through. The chase to the beach is on as Nowak’s life hangs in the balance, along with Howell’s future.
But any hope of tying up the case is dashed when Howell denies responsibility for the murder. Tosh shudders at the prospect of a homegrown killer.
Calder decides to mend some family ties before leaving and heads for dinner at the manse, but a surprisingly enjoyable evening ends with an alarming discovery.
Late at the mortuary, Cora’s initial findings offer Tosh little surprise, until a seemingly unremarkable tattoo points the case in a dark, new direction.
