Midsomer Murders on ABC – Series 23 sees us back in the fictional picturesque county of Midsomer.

Each episode follows DCI Barnaby and his trusty sidekick DS Winter, as they endeavour to solve perlexing crimes while also exploring the quirks of this delightful but deadly county.

EPISODE 2

Set up by an independent charity fifteen years ago, Challis Court is a collection of desirable apartments within a grand estate providing comfortable and secure housing for retired police officers.

While Challis, at first sight, seems to be a tight-knit and supportive community, hierarchies from the force have remained, as well as resentments. Old scores, unsettled for decades, still fester beneath the surface.

When a resident is found dead, the other inhabitants regard a murder on their doorstep as an affront and a challenge. As Challis is a gated community, Barnaby realises that the killer is likely a resident… and therefore an ex-police officer.

As the investigation proceeds, it becomes apparent that the truth is not confined within Challis’ walls. For Barnaby to solve this crime, he must look back in time to the mystery of the Goldman- Forbes heist.

The shadow it cast is long – with reputations made and ruined. And now, with many officers who worked on the case retired and residing at Challis, Barnaby realises that, even thirty years later, £300,000 is motive enough for murder.
