Grand Designs: New Zealand on ABC – Since emigrating to the Bay of Plenty from England with their young family 22 years ago, Stew and Gill Moss have been kiwifruit farming in Te Puke.
Summer holidays were spent at Lake Tarawera, with the children spending as much time as they could on or in the water.
This led to a holiday home but when a neighbouring section closer to the lake came up for sale and with a more relaxed pace of life looming on the horizon, Stew and Gill just couldn’t resist buying it for their ultimate retirement home.
The architecturally designed house will make the most of the breathtaking views out to the lake and the mountains. A generous open plan kitchen dining space will extend out through glazed sliding doors on to a cantilevered deck and balcony – clad in dark painted ply timber with board and batten.
Gill is also about to have a significant birthday and she would love her party to be in their new house.
However, there will need to be substantial effort put in before they get to throw a party and then put their feet up. The lakeside site will need to be extensively excavated – simply put – they don’t know what they’re going to find when they start digging…
