Finance Presenter Madeleine Morris departs ABC News Breakfast – After four years as part of the ABC News Breakfast team, Madeleine Morris today announced on air she will be stepping down from her role on the program and leaving the ABC. Her last day on air will be Friday, October 20.
“I’ve absolutely loved my time on News Breakfast and the other roles I’ve been lucky enough to have with the ABC,” says Madeleine. “As journalists, having people let us into their lives is a tremendous privilege, and one I have been grateful for every day.
“The 3am alarm is pretty brutal though, and my kids and I are looking forward to me being there in the morning, and not having to go to bed before them at night.
“After a little break I’m looking forward to exploring how I can use all the skills I’ve picked up in more than 20 years in the business reporting from around the world in a different way. And having a sleep in.”
Madeleine began her journalism career with the ABC in Rockhampton before moving to the BBC for 12 years, then returning to the ABC in Melbourne. During her 10 years at the ABC she has held a number of roles including stints on 7.30, ABC Radio Melbourne and most recently Finance Presenter and fill-in co-host at News Breakfast.
Michael Rowland says:
“Madeleine’s flair for finance has helped underpin the growth of News Breakfast. She’s guided our viewers through cost-of-living challenges and has turned the spotlight on corporate shenanigans. I’ve also treasured the many times Madeleine has sat alongside me on the Breakfast couch as a co-presenter. She’s always had my measure!”
Lisa Millar says:
“We are going to miss Mads so much on the Brekky couch. No one could get their head about breaking financial stories as quickly as Mads. She always had the audience in mind when she dug deep on issues that might have overwhelmed others. But it’s her sense of humour and ability to laugh at herself that I’ll miss the most. She is simply loads of fun – even in the hours well before dawn!”
Tyson Shine, Executive Producer says:
“Whether it’s anchoring breaking news of the US Capitol riots, leading news specials on the HIV/AIDS Pandemic, or shining a light on the way banks fail scam victims, Mads throws everything she has at her work. A genuine journalist who has spent much of her time trying to give a voice to the voiceless. The industry, and her friends at News Breakfast will miss her.”
