Tsunami: The Wave That Shook The World on Channel 7 and 7plus – A powerful landmark 20th anniversary documentary about the 2004 Indian Ocean Boxing Day tsunami.
Killing around 230,000 people and displacing 1.4 million more, it was one of the deadliest natural disasters in history. Told through the first-hand experiences of extraordinary individuals from all over the world, we see how catastrophic events unfolded during the morning of 26 December 2004: Englishman Rob conveys the horrifying account of his desperate attempts to rescue his family from a paradise beach in Sri Lanka; Australian skipper Bill recounts his experience trying to control his boat off Phuket as it spins out of control on top of a gigantic tsunami wave; French survivor Flore describes being swept into the tsunami, fighting for her life and being saved by a stranger.
Their harrowing stories are told through raw, personal testimony, archive, and reimagined visual effects and show how 20 years on, trauma and resilience have defined a generation.
