WIN Declines to Supply TV Guides for Regional Viewers – Following my recent announcement about ending TV Central guides for Channel 9 and 9Gem across metro capitals, I reached out to WIN Television, the regional broadcaster of Channel 9, to explore whether they could provide programming information for their viewers.
WIN has a major national footprint and broadcasts programming that is largely aligned with Nine’s metro schedule. Regional viewers currently receive no dedicated TV guide information through TV Central, simply because Nine does not supply complete guides and amendments.
Given this gap, I believed it was reasonable that WIN, as the broadcaster, take responsibility for making sure their programming information is accessible to their audience. Unfortunately, WIN has declined to provide weekly guides or update amendments, outside their own online tv guide that does not serve the same listing information or amendments as their counterparts.
Why This Matters for Regional Audiences
While metro viewers of Nine already face limitations due to incomplete or late guide data, regional viewers are now at an even greater disadvantage. Without WIN stepping in, they miss out entirely on accurate listings that could help them plan their viewing.
This decision means that TV Central cannot provide the same level of coverage for WIN regions that it does for Seven, 10, and even Nine’s own multi-channels like 9Go!, 9Life and 9Rush, which are more straightforward to maintain.
TV Central’s Position
As I shared previously, TV Central is committed to publishing complete, accurate weekly guides that are easy to read and cover Australia. However, without timely and detailed data from broadcasters, it is simply not possible to deliver that quality consistently.
With WIN choosing not to supply its own guide or amendments, the responsibility falls through the cracks — leaving regional audiences underserved.
I remain grateful to Nine and its team for their ongoing support of TV Central in other areas, including interviews and podcast participation. Yet, it is important to be transparent with readers: unless WIN revises its approach, regional viewers will not see guide listings for WIN on TV Central.
Looking Ahead
TV Central will continue to publish guides for 9Go!, 9Life and 9Rush, and will keep pursuing ways to make sure Australian audiences — metro and regional — have access to the most reliable programming information available. I hope this gap can be addressed in the future so that regional viewers of WIN don’t continue to miss out.
Note: WIN declined opportunity to send guides to TV Central, even though all other regional markets send information. WIN did not respond when contacted about this story
