Episode One: Georgia
In Vani, home to the legend of the Golden Fleece and the epic quest of Jason and the Argonauts, Bettany explores the truth behind the myth. She visits an ancient archaeological site where the finds include extraordinary gold artefacts.
Then the team head to Svaneti, a unique area in Georgia with its own language. The villages here are dotted with Svan towers, built by locals to protect their precious belongings.
Bettany spends a memorable night of feasting with a Svan family before being taken to one of the region’s thousand-year-old Svan churches that together contain a quarter of all the icons in Georgia.
