Australia’s Love on the Spectrum Wins Two Primetime Emmy Awards – Today, Australian production company Northern Pictures is celebrating two Primetime Emmy Award wins for the third season of its heartfelt series Love on the Spectrum in the categories: ‘Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program’ and  ‘Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program’.The 77th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards took place in Los Angeles, California.

This marks seven Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award wins for Love on the Spectrum (2022, 2024, 2025), making it the most Primetime Emmy Awards won by an Australian company and cementing Northern Pictures’ position as a global leader in authentic and inclusive storytelling.

The recognition from the Television Academy follows the ongoing critical and audience acclaim for the series, which explores the dating experiences of people on the autism spectrum. The third season saw the most successful matches to date – warming the hearts of the world over.

Nominated in five categories, the two Primetime Emmy Award wins received by Love on the Spectrum are:

Karina Holden, Cian O’Clery and Diana Gonzales
Nominees included:
America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (Netflix), RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked (MTV), The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives (Hulu), Welcome To Wrexham (FX on Hulu)

Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program
Northern Pictures Winners:
Cian O’Clery, Sean Bowman, Emma Choate

For co-creators Karina Holden (Executive Producer and Head of Factual at Northern Pictures) and Cian O’Clery (Director and Showrunner), the recognition carries significant meaning.

Karina Holden, Head of Factual for Northern Pictures and Executive Producer and Co-Creator of Love on the Spectrum said:

“To win two Primetime Emmy Awards is an extraordinary honour that reflects our team’s passion and dedication to the series. Since its inception, Love on the Spectrum has had the incredible ability to change perceptions, create more understanding and resonate globally across cultural boundaries. I’m immensely proud of our team and especially, the participants who have so generously shared their lives with viewers around the world.”

Cian O’Clery, Director, Executive Producer and Co-Creator of Love on the Spectrum said:

“We are deeply honoured to be recognised by the Television Academy. From the beginning, our aim has been to create a series that treats our participants with dignity and respect while offering genuine insight into their experiences. These awards celebrate not only our production team’s efforts but also the courage of our participants who have touched millions with their personal journeys and helped reshape the public’s understanding of autism.”

The third season, which premiered globally on Netflix in line with World Autism Day, has continued to attract a broad international audience and on launch, ranked in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for two weeks. Earlier this year, Northern Pictures announced a fourth season for Netflix which is currently in production.

Featuring returning cast members such as Abbey, David, Connor, James, Tanner, Dani and Adan alongside new participants, Pari and Madison, Season Three continued to explore themes of love, identity, and connection, aiming to foster greater understanding and empathy.

These latest wins further affirm the series’ standing as a leading example of an original Australian format within the international television industry.

A leader in factual and drama programming, Northern Pictures was awarded Production Business of the Year at the 2025 Screen Producers Australia (SPA) Awards. The team has been recognised with prestigious awards including seven Primetime Emmy Awards and an International Emmy for Love on the Spectrum along with an International Emmy for Hardball.Northern Pictures was also acknowledged with the Human Rights Media & Creative Industries Award in 2023.
