Stuart Menzies appointed to VicScreen Board – Highly regarded television executive Stuart Menzies has been appointed to the VicScreen Board.

Stuart brings four decades’ experience across content creation, producing, commissioning, channel management, programming and financing to VicScreen, Victoria’s creative and economic screen development agency.

Victorian production company Werner Film Productions, part of BBC Studios, grew significantly while Stuart was Managing Director from 2018-25.

Stuart executive produced the acclaimed and multi award-winning drama series The Newsreader seasons 1, 2 & 3 (ABC), Surviving Summer seasons 1 & 2 (Netflix) and Crazy Fun Park (ABC, ACTF).

In 2024-25, Stuart executive produced Knee High Spies and Goolagong for the ABC and co-produced the upcoming 60Forty Films production of The Dispatcher for Apple TV, which was largely filmed in regional Victoria with support from the Victorian Government through VicScreen.

In 2018, Stuart was the Australian Producer on the Synchronicity Films (UK) production of The Cry (BBC, ABC).

Previously Stuart held various senior management positions at ABC Australia including as the inaugural Controller of ABC2 (2010-2014), where he drove the commissioning of bold, original content for the network’s younger skewing digital channel.

Stuart Menzies joins current VicScreen Board members Nick Forward, Mitu Bhowmick AM, Andrea Denholm, Anne Jackson, Greg McLean, Tiriki Onus, Jenny Taing OAM, Lisy Kane and President George Lekakis AO.

VicScreen’s Board is responsible for the agency’s governance, culture, strategy and risk management, and considers and approves funding decisions recommended by VicScreen’s committees and panels.

VicScreen President George Lekakis AO said,

“Stuart’s extensive experience across producing, commissioning, channel management, programming and financing and clear understanding of audience will be invaluable to the strategic leadership of VicScreen. I look forward to working alongside Stuart, as we continue to grow our content pipeline, and support our homegrown talent and local screen businesses.”

Stuart Menzies said,

“VicScreen has always been the best state agency in the country, and I am thrilled to be asked to join the board. I have had various roles in my 40 years but at heart I will always be a producer and a staunch supporter of independent production and Victoria. I look forward to adding my voice at a time of great change in the industry.”
