In each episode, Robson explores one iconic route, getting to know the amazing people and places along the way, delighting in the local culture, food and incredible views.
These walks include the ruggedly beautiful Great Glen Way in Scotland, the fascinating Hadrian’s Wall in the north of England, Dorset’s UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Jurassic Coast, a bountiful Wachau Valley Trail in Austria, Poland’s historic Eagle’s Nests Trail, the relaxed Douro Valley in Portugal, the pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago in Spain and finally the D-Day Landing Beaches of Normandy, France.
Series One, Episode Four: Normandy
In this emotional episode, Robson Green walks along the north coast of Normandy, France, tracing the footsteps of brave soldiers in the D-Day landings. Join Robson as he celebrates a coastline that now thrives in peacetime, while learning about the history that played out here.
Robson starts his journey at Pointe du Hoc, seeing first-hand the way this land was reshaped on that fateful day in July 1945. He travels across 4 of the 5 D-Day landing beaches, learning about the immense sacrifices that took place there.
Then Robson arrives at Port-en-Bessin, just in time for an enormous fleet of fishing boats returning to harbour, many carrying thousands of scallops, known locally as “L’Or Blanc”, meaning “White Gold”. He explores medieval history through the iconic tapestry in Bayeux and has a picnic complete with French delicacies.
