Riot Women on SBS and SBS on Demand S1E1 – SBS has the exclusive Australian premiere of smash-hit UK drama series Riot Women.
Created by Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley), Riot Women is about a group of women who form a punk rock band – just for fun, just to enter a local talent contest, just to raise money for charity – but who discover in the course of rehearsing an ABBA song (badly) that they have a voice of their own. And that voice is angry.
They’re women who’ve recently discovered the ‘joys’ (not) of being middle aged, menopausal and more or less invisible. And they want to shout about it.
Season One, Episode One;
In a quiet house, Beth Thornton (Joanna Scanlan) is burnt-out and on the brink – until an unexpected phone call changes everything. Jess Burchill (Lorraine Ashbourne) assembles an unlikely crew of sassy women to form a punk rock band for a local talent contest.
Police Officer Holly Gaskell (Tamsin Greig) arrests chaotic Kitty Eckersley (Rosalie Craig), who might prove to be the missing ingredient the band – and Beth – needs.
Riot Women on SBS and SBS on Demand – Series Premiere / Thursday 2 April at 9.35pm (6 Parts)
