About the World Athletics Championships
The cream of our Australian track and field Athletics team will go on show in primetime on the 9Network for nine consecutive nights from Saturday, September 13, as our national team builds on the start of a golden period
Paris 2024 pole vault gold medallist Nina Kennedy will join the commentary team exclusively for Nine’s Wide World of Sports. Hosted by Tony Jones, Kennedy is joined in commentary by four-time Olympian and track expert Genevieve Gregson, Athletics expert David Culbert live from Tokyo and commentary from Matt Hill (track) and Brenton Speed (field).
Gunning for glory in the green and gold in Tokyo will be an exciting crop of Aussie track and field athletes.
Australia’s rising track superstar Gout Gout will take on the world’s best in the 200m, Matt Denny starts as one of the favorites in the discus, Paris 2024 silver medallist Jess Hull will look to go one better in the 1500m and Olympic silver medallist Nicola Olyslagers has been in hot form this year as she attacks the high jump event.
A galaxy International Athletics stars will shine brightly throughout the event with Olympic champion Noah Lyles lining up to defend his crown in the 100m, Swedish pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis out to break his own world record, and American Sydney McLaughlin-Lavrone will attack the 400m sprint after owning the 400m hurdles event.
Channel 9HD and 9GemHD is the place to be for the action each night, with finals of selected field events will be available to stream in full on 9Now.
Nine Director of Sport, Brent Williams, said:
“A golden generation of Australian athletes and global icons take centre stage for what promises to be an unmissable World Athletics Championship. “Nine’s journey to LA and then Brisbane continues as world record holders, Olympic champions and emerging superstars light up the Tokyo stadium, with every magical moment available on the screens of the 9Network and 9Now.”
