Postcards on Channel 9 and 9Now S27E9 – Join the Postcards team as guest presenter Mitch Tambo shows us around his favourite spots in Melbourne, this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Mitch shows viewers a few of Melbourne CBD’s (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) hidden gems that celebrate creativity, culture and culinary flair. He starts at Yarn Strong Sista, a vibrant store that champions First Nations stories through books, art and handmade homewares. Next he heads to Tolarno Galleries, tucked away on the top floor of 104 Exhibition Street, where contemporary works by Australian artists like Ben Quilty take centre stage. Mitch finishes his city adventure at Meatmaiden, a bold and buzzy steakhouse on Little Collins Street serving up deliciously good cuts alongside expertly made cocktails.
Livinia Nixon explores the mesmerising world of Yayoi Kusama at the NGV International (also Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) in the largest retrospective of the renowned Japanese artist ever staged in the southern hemisphere. Guided by NGV Senior Curator of Asian Art, Wayne Crothers, they explore the immense breadth of Kusama’s career, from early paintings to large-scale canvas, sculpture, fashion, and her famous infinity rooms.
Livinia also discovers the natural wonders and warm hospitality of Halls Gap (Djabwurung Country) in the heart of the Grampians National Park.
She begins at the Halls Gap Zoo, Victoria’s largest regional zoo, home to more than 120 species. Back in town, Livinia stops in at Paper Scissors Rock Brew Co., an award-winning craft brewery known for its seasonal beers, local wines and lively weekend music sessions. Her day ends at Pomonal Estate, a boutique winery just outside Halls Gap where sweeping views, handcrafted wines and friendly faces perfectly capture the spirit of the region.
Elsewhere this week, Kris Smith soaks up the sun-drenched charm of Noosa Heads (Gubbi Gubbi Country) on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Lured by the serene waters of Lake Cootharaba, he finds the perfect spot for camping, sailing and dreaming of road-trip adventures. After a lakeside chat about the latest Mater Cars for Cancer prize, Kris heads to Noosa’s vibrant heart, Hastings Street, and stops in at Moonstruck, a European-style café serving everything from breakfast bagels to boutique gin cocktails. He winds up with a nostalgic treat from the Frenzy Ice Cream Van, a retro local favourite that’s scooped up smiles since 1983.
