Postcards on Channel 9 and 9Now S27E35 – This week Postcards presents a very special episode as host Shane Delia journeys to his homeland of Malta.
The proud Australian-Maltese presenter guides viewers through the stunning beauty, rich history and fabulous food of the Mediterranean island country, Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
The adventure begins in Malta’s capital, Valletta, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Shane explores the city’s extraordinary architecture and turbulent past on foot. Highlights include a visit to the opulent St John’s Co-Cathedral, stunning views of the Grand Harbour from the Upper Barrakka Gardens, and a taste of modern Maltese cuisine at the Grain Street restaurant.
Next, Shane heads inland to the ancient beginnings of the country in Rabat and Mdina.
In Rabat, he explores the ruins of a Roman-era house at Domus Romana and visits the Crystal Palace, a pastizzeria famous for its savory pastizzi snacks. From there he steps into the ancient fortified town of Mdina, which Game of Thrones fans may recognise as the original King’s Landing.
Heading south, Shane finds the traditional fishing village of Marsaxlokk, whose harbour is famous for its colourful, traditional “Luzzu” boats that date back thousands of years. He chats with a fisherman before taking a boat trip to explore the stunning sea caves of the famous Blue Grotto, then dropping by the beautiful Ta Betta Wine Estates.
Shane’s journey wraps up in Gozo, the second largest island in the Maltese archipelago, where he checks out a craft brewery, Lord Chambray, and meets Leanne Meilak from Taste Of Gozo food tours, to discover the island’s unique treasures. This culinary tour includes the historic Portelli Confectionery and the traditional Ta’Saminu Bakery as Shane explores the medieval town.
