Postcards on Channel 9 and 9Now S27E33 – This week the Postcards team are joined by 3AW Breakfast Host Ross Stevenson as they explore more of what Victoria has to offer, Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Shane Delia hooks up with Ross Stevenson for a tour of his all-time favourite restaurants. Starting in East Melbourne, Ross, who recently celebrated 35 years at 3AW, takes Shane for a stroll through Fitzroy Gardens to Il Duca, an Italian restaurant on Wellington Parade that’s been serving honest, family-friendly food since 1983. It’s Ross’s long-time favourite for post-footy lunches. Next they head to Kew to visit Bar Alba on Cotham Road, a venue from the team behind Centonove that Ross frequents for its great wine and food and convenient opening hours.
Kris Smith explores Geelong (Wathaurong Country), a city celebrated for its creativity as Australia’s only UNESCO City of Design.
He starts in expansive Eastern Park, home to one of the city’s best-kept secrets: the Mercy Cafe. Tucked into the greenery overlooking East Geelong Golf Club, this humble shipping container cafe serves up top coffee and breakfast favourites. At the Geelong Gallery, one of the oldest regional galleries in the country, Kris views the Archibald Prize exhibition, which is on display on its national tour until November 9, with Director and CEO Humphrey Clegg. He winds up on Malop Street at Ooh Baby, a stunning restaurant specialising in modern Italian fare and cocktails.
This week Brodie Harper heads to the lush Gold Coast hinterland to explore the fresh air of Tamborine Mountain (Bundjalung Country). Her first stop is the Tamborine Mountain Coffee Plantation, a unique venue that’s both a boutique coffee plantation and a cafe, offering a “crop to cup” experience with plantation tours alongside breakfast and brunch. Brodie then checks out the ultimate way to explore the region, winning the $510,000 Mater Cars For Cancer Prize Package, which includes a hybrid camper and modified vehicle. She finishes at Tamborine Mountain’s oldest pub, St Bernards Hotel, a spot built in 1881 and known for its casual dining, resident St Bernard dogs, and incredible views over Guanaba Gorge.
And Livinia Nixon heads to Her Majesty’s Theatre (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country) to catch the Michael Jackson magic that has taken over Melbourne with the global sensation, MJ The Musical.
This Tony Award-winning blockbuster, seen by over five million people worldwide, features more than 25 of Jackson’s greatest hits. Livinia meets the star, Ilario Grant, who plays MJ, cast member Penny McNamee, and Zavier Pillay and Daniel Makunike, two local boys making their professional theatre debuts in the show. For a post-theatre bite, Livinia takes a ten-minute walk to Hardware Lane and French Saloon, before a nightcap at Gracie, a cozy bar and bottle shop nearby that celebrates sake.
