First Nations chef Chris Jordan is redefining Australia’s relationship with native ingredients. Born on Bundjalung land with deep ties to Kamilaroi Country, Chris’s connection to Country fuels his passion for traditional foods. After gaining experience in top restaurants, he launched Three Little Birds as a platform to celebrate Indigenous ingredients and knowledge. Through his workshops, Chris explains the flavours and stories of native plants, fostering food sovereignty for future generations.
For Jawoyn woman Jodi Woods, Nitmiluk National Park is more than a place, it’s home. Guided by her mother Jane, whose connection to Country inspired her path, Jodi found her calling in sharing the beauty and stories of her ancestral land with breathtaking Nitmiluk Tours. She invites visitors to experience Nitmiluk through her family’s eyes, blending culture, history and deep respect for Country.
We meet IT consultant and pottery instructor Mitra Mirsaeian, founder of the Mitra Ceramic House.
Her passion for pottery and ceramics began with her father’s teaching in Iran, and now combines a cultural connection with a break from her busy life. Mitra has created a communal space in Brisbane for artists of all levels to express themselves. She encourages her students to experiment and embrace their creative ideas without fear of making mistakes.
Rick Petersen has transformed a life of resilience into one of purpose, helping others reconnect with nature and themselves. As a former SAS soldier with a challenging childhood, Rick found peace in the bush and went on to start Men of Change Australia, a program helping fathers and sons strengthen their bond in the great outdoors. Through bushcraft and survival techniques Rick teaches practical skills and reminds people of the importance of connection, to nature and to one another.
To see these stories of culture, craft and connection, tune in to My Way this Sunday at 5.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
