Set up the Christmas tree and gather around the television for the spectacular broadcast of the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols 2022, this Friday at 7.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Hosted by 9News presenter Melissa Downes, this quintessential Queensland carols production is set to brighten up living rooms as jacaranda trees set the backdrop for Brisbane’s Riverstage. Santa is late by a “deer breakdown” in a Transurban tunnel, whilst the state’s finest talent perform to raise money for the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust.
The magic of the celebration will be enhanced by Brisbane band Sheppard’s heartfelt performance of Christmas Without You. This number pays tribute to people seeing their fathers for the first time in three years during the lead-up to the carols.
Other performers include Queensland’s first lady of song Naomi Price and lead actress in the Mary Poppins Musical Stefanie Jones. The 18 elite Jingle Belles dancers will add glitter to the show! On the list are singer-songwriter Jem Cassar-Daley, international star Johnny Manuel, star of Moulin Rouge! The Musical Alinta Chidzey among others.
Melissa Downes said: “I’ve always loved Christmas, and hosting the carols is the perfect way to celebrate. It’s such a fun and festive way to get into the spirit, a Queensland tradition with everyone singing along at home.
“The carols couldn’t showcase Queensland any better, with jacaranda petals falling during Ave Maria, Sheppard singing Christmas Without You, and the renowned Riverstage filled with festive spirit for viewers to enjoy.”
There will be an encore carols broadcast nationally on Christmas Day at 8.00am on Channel 9 and 9Now.
The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Carols 2022 is proudly presented by Brisbane City Council. It’s in association with Transurban and ANZ and production partner The Little Red Company.
