Prepare for a zoo-pendous adventure when the award-winning Taronga: Who’s Who in the Zoo thunders back onto our screens for season six on Tuesday, November 4, at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
This season will take viewers behind the scenes again at Taronga Zoo in Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, displaying the tireless efforts of the dedicated keepers, vets, scientists and conservationists who work around the clock to provide care for the wildlife.
From the monumental relocation of Taronga’s last two Asian elephants, Pak Boon (at risk of developing a serious eye condition) and Tang Mo, to drama in the gorilla troop as the young male ape-prentices begin to challenge the big silverback Kibali, there will be memorable moments aplenty.
Australian actress Virginia Gay returns as the narrator, guiding viewers through the two renowned zoos and showcasing their feathered, furry and scaly residents, both big and small.
In Sydney, the zoo’s challenges range from administering a vital contraceptive implant for a lion to building the perfect feeder for a family of red pandas. Tarni, a sea lion with a history of difficult pregnancies, needs careful monitoring, and the team use drones to conduct a vital sea survey, as well as undertaking a koala survey deep in the Blue Mountains.
At Dubbo, a delicate examination is carried out on a cheetah and two Sumatran tigers. And for good measure, Keeper Tarryn reveals the identity of an astonishing animal with a bizarre reproductive life.
Along the way, team Taronga’s mission of leading the way in wildlife preservation and care will be shown through the combination of their innovative medical procedures, vital conservation programs and moments of complete wonder.
