Before we grab our bouquets, we check in with our first two couples on their honeymoons.
In tropical Vanuatu, Carina and Paul are just as smitten with each other today as they were by the end of their wedding night.
The same can’t be said for Lauren and Eliot. Despite successfully making it through the wedding without running away, he cannot promise the same today.
He’s uncovered things he considers red flags in Lauren: she is older than 25 (she’s 37), she has a job and even owns designer earrings. The audacity.
“I don’t want to compromise on my values, I’m not willing to,” the 35-year-old says.
MAFS EPISODE 1 RECAP: One bride wants an instant redo after seeing her groom
Hmm. Here’s hoping we’re about to meet a fresh groom who can restore our faith in modern dating… no pressure.
Katie and Tim’s wedding
Queenslander Katie likes to do things with heart, which is why this delightful bride is the CEO of restaurants that donate profits to charity.
Her career is thriving, but her love life is not so much and she has a deep fear of rejection. “I would really like to meet somebody who accepts me for me. I want to find my person,” she says.
Her match is PE teacher Tim, who has found in previous relationships that “nice guys finish last”.
He wants to prove that wrong and says he is willing to give it his all with whoever he meets at the end of the aisle, because he doesn’t really have a usual ‘type’.
The experts feel positive about their match, as Tim is getting “exactly what he asked for” in bubbly, family-orientated Katie, who they all agree is “such a catch”.
First things first, she needs a dress – and trying gowns on prompts an emotional moment for the soon-to-be bride.
“Someone’s supposed to love you first,” she says through tears. “Nobody loved me enough to do this, now I have to trap a stranger into it. This is meant to be a thing of love and it’s not.”
Wow, I wish someone had just ripped my heart out and stomped on it instead. IT WOULD’VE HURT LESS THAN THAT.
Thankfully, Katie is all smiles by the wedding day and beams her way down the aisle to Tim, who she immediately declares as “hot”.
Her vows definitely win Tim’s loved ones over, who cannot help but laugh at her sense of humour.

“I am here for the right reasons,” Katie assures her new husband. “So please don’t worry about that, I also don’t have any intentions of doing an Only Fans account.”
Tim assures her he is willing to give his all to this relationship, but it doesn’t take long for him to break those vows.
No, seriously. It’s only about 30 seconds after the ceremony.
“What the f–k,” he begins a conversation with a production member, making sure he is far away from cameras while declaring Katie “totally not what I wanted”.
“I normally go short, petite, blonde or brunette… there’s no attraction, there’s nothing there,” he continues.
So much for not having a type.
He does a very poor job at disguising his lack of attraction when he physically recoils away from a hug during their photoshoot and then says “I’m not doing that” to the idea of giving her a kiss on the cheek while cutting their cake.
“That was a little bit humiliating,” Katie admits. “I took that as a bit of rejection.”
She tells her friends that was ‘triggering’ and vows to find out what’s going on, so she pulls him aside to get to the bottom of it.
“I’m scared now that Tim is not into me,” she says.
Despite his true feelings, he lies to Katie that that isn’t the case at all. He’s just nervous and overwhelmed, he reckons.
“You recoiled a few times…” she says.
“I think it’s been a lot to start with… I’m sorry you feel like that, because it wasn’t my intention,” he explains. “You definitely put me at ease and I couldn’t ask for someone more genuine.”
Katie comes away relieved, believing she just leaped to conclusions that aren’t true… until she wakes up the next morning in tears.
Surely we’re all wanting to leap into our TVs to give her a hug at this point?
“He said, ‘there’s no spark, I wasn’t feeling a spark all day,'” she recalls Tim telling her after the cameras left.
“To be rejected, that’s my worst nightmare. I don’t know what I’ve done wrong or why this keeps happening,” she sobs. “I feel really humiliated.”
It’s not great timing at all, but they find out they’re off to Tasmania on their honeymoon.
Neither are totally sure whether they should bother going, but he’s back on cameras now and Tim ensures her he’s still wanting to get to know her.
It’s a rough start but maybe, just maybe, a spark can grow?
Jamie and Dave’s wedding
Tall, tattooed groom Dave spends a lot of his time being misjudged by his appearance, but the 6’6″ tradie is actually a softie looking for a partner to bring him out of his shell.
We’ve only known Jamie for a few seconds, but we think that’s probably something she can help with!
Her dad prays each week for her to find a husband, so obviously he’s thrilled with this new development. The Greek pocket rocket has a huge personality and says her ultimate type is “a cross between David Beckham and someone who’s done 20 to life”.
“I look at the portfolio of men I’ve personally selected myself and I think even God himself is like, ‘let someone else take the wheel on this,'” she says, rattling off a master list of red flags.
Emotionally unavailable men, narcissists, love bombers, ghosters… she’s experienced the whole shebang, and is putting her faith in the experts to find her someone who is none of the above. Bonus points for a neck tatt, surely!
EXCLUSIVE: Carina and Paul reveal exactly how they knew each other before marrying on MAFS
“I’m really excited about these two,” John Aiken explains. “Jamie will bring the spark and Dave will be the rock.”
While Jamie begins her wedding day wondering if she will like her match as much as she likes coconut water, Dave has an emotional phone call to make.
His dad is undergoing chemotherapy and cannot make it to the wedding.
“It hits home when he’s not apart of something like this because he’s one of the most important people to me,” he explains, emotional.
He believes in love at first sight and hopes to feel it today. As does Jamie, we assume, based on her excitedly yelling “is that a neck tatt?!” before Dave has even turned around to see her walk down the aisle.
“Yes! Sold, sold, sold,” she yells, and a huge smile spreads not just on Dave’s face but on everyone else in the room as well.
We love these two already.
The good times keep rolling into their vows, and based on their sense of humours we think these two are definitely going to get along.
“Having long arms, long legs, big feet, there’s also something big you can’t see. I have an extremely big… heart,” Dave jokes.
They’re both very happy on first impressions and even throughout their photoshoot – despite Jamie firing 2578 questions at a bewildered Dave.
”Jamie’s going to be a ball of fun, she’s quirky, she’s funny… very early days but I feel something, so I’m looking forward to feeling more,” he gushes.

They’re not the only ones feeling good about this either! It’s only been a matter of hours, but this pairing already have the all-important mum tick-of-approval.
“I’m secretly excited about this, aren’t you?” Dave’s mum Brenda says.
“Yes! And I didn’t expect it,” Jamie’s mum Vicki replies.
As the reception continues, Dave lets down his guard and opens up about his dad in a very heartfelt speech.
”With dad not being here today, I realise even more how important he is,” he says, choking up.
He credits his father’s parenting for the reason he is the “big, kind gentleman you see today” and promises Jamie’s parents he will treat her in a way that makes his dad proud.
Jamie admires his vulnerability and gives him a huge supportive hug.
”He’s baring his soul and it was so beautiful,” she marvels.
They take time to themselves and Dave shares his gratefulness for Jamie’s support. Meanwhile, she is honoured that he considers her worthy of taking time away from his dad.
”I took the risk and it’s paid off immensely,” Dave replies.
They cement their connection with a kiss or five before rejoining their friends and families on cloud nine for a dance and some more kind words.
“I’m full of love coming out of my arse right now,” Jamie tells the camera. It’s possibly TMI, but we’re happy for her!
They wake up on the first morning of married life after a fun, PG13 night together and are excited to learn they’re heading off to the Whitsundays for their honeymoon.
Bring on the sun and surf – it’s time to pack!
