Postcards on Channel 9 and 9Now S27E31 – This week the Postcards team catch up with AFL superstar Marcus Bontempelli and explore more of the best places to wine, dine and play, Sunday at 2.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Shane Delia explores one of his favourite shopping strips, Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn (Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country), starting at Leaf Village Grocer, a beautiful store packed with seasonal produce from local suppliers. A five-minute drive away in Kew, he visits Arthur’s Milk Bar, a new cafe co-owned by champion Western Bulldogs footballer Marcus Bontempelli (The Bont), which aims to bring back the community feel of the classic corner milk bar.
Shane and Marcus, who are both ambassadors for the My Room Children’s Cancer Charity, chat about the incredible work it does. They are joined by the Fordham family to share their story and preview the annual Footy Show Grand Final My Room Telethon next Thursday, September 25, on Channel 9.
Lauren Phillips is in Alphington (also Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country), a suburb north of the Yarra that shares the riverside charm of its neighbours, Northcote and Ivanhoe.
Her tour focuses on Heidelberg Road, with a coffee stop at Kissaten cafe before visiting Cutting Cloth, a specialty store for anyone with a love of fabric and quilting. Lauren winds up at Decca, the new bistro from celebrated chef Adam D’Sylva, which has been drawing a crowd since its recent opening.
Way up north, we find Kris Smith sampling the luxurious relaxation of Hope Island on the Gold Coast (Bundjalung Country), known for its canals, exclusive waterfront homes and golf courses. His tour begins with a round at Links Golf & Wellbeing, one of the island’s three world-class courses, and continues with an inspection of the new $4.3 million Mater Prize Home, a package that includes a waterfront property overlooking the golf course, a boat and a Lexus. Kris ends his day in the Sanctuary Cove marina, at Red’s Kitchen & Bar, enjoying modern Australian fare and the dazzling view of the luxury yachts.
Meanwhile, Madeline Spark takes a visit to the picture-perfect Gippsland town of Walhalla (Gunaikurnai Country), a heritage-listed village frozen in time with just 20 permanent residents.
She goes underground at the Long Tunnel Gold Mine, which produced the equivalent of $5.5 billion worth of gold in its heyday. Next, Madeline enjoys the stunning scenery of Stringers Gorge on an hour-long round trip aboard the historic Walhalla Goldfields Railway, a former goldrush service now run by volunteers. She crowns her visit at the heart and soul of the community, the Walhalla Lodge Hotel, affectionately known as “The Wally Pub”.
