Alicia Molik joins 9News Perth as weekend sports presenter – Nine Perth today announced that tennis champion, Olympic medallist and renowned broadcaster Alicia Molik will join the 9News Perth flagship bulletin as weekend sport presenter, starting this Saturday at 6.00pm.
A household name in Australian sport, Molik’s decorated career includes a career-high world ranking of No. 8 in singles and Grand Slam doubles titles at both the Australian Open and Roland Garros. Notably, she remains the only Australian to win an Olympic singles medal in tennis, a feat achieved at the 2004 Athens Games. Since retiring from the professional circuit, she has established herself as one of the nation’s most insightful analysts, most recently helping to anchor 9Network’s coverage of the Australian Open.
Molik says it is a privilege to join 9News Perth.
“I’m incredibly excited to work alongside seasoned professionals like Paddy Sweeney and the entire team. Sport is woven into the DNA of this city, and I look forward to connecting with our viewers every weekend to share the triumphs and the biggest stories in the sporting world.
“Joining the 9News sport team is a natural fit. I’m thrilled that I’ll still be courtside covering the Australian Open and Wimbledon for the 9Network – it’s truly the best of both worlds.”
The appointment bolsters a formidable sports team at 9News Perth. Paddy Sweeney, a multi-award-winning journalist and winner of the 2025 WA Football Media Guild Award for Best TV Match Report and Best TV Feature Story, will continue to lead the week night sports desk.
“Alicia is a champion in every sense of the word,”
– Sweeney said.
“Her depth of knowledge and big-stage experience will be an incredible asset to our team. I’ve respected her work for years, and can’t wait to see what she brings to the Perth bulletin.”
Michael Genovese, 9News Perth Director of News, also welcomed the signing.
“Alicia is a world-class talent, and bringing her into the fold is a massive win for our viewers. With Paddy Sweeney leading our weekday coverage and Alicia anchoring our weekends, viewers will see Perth’s best sports coverage every day.”
Molik makes her debut this Saturday and Sunday at 6.00pm, joining Monika Kos at the news desk and Natalia Cooper with the latest weather.
