9News Perth welcomes primary school kids to join Junior Weather Watch – 9News Perth has announced the return of Junior Weather Watch, an initiative aimed at educating local primary school students about the weather and climate change through interactive class activities, starting in school term 4 this October.
The campaign, led by 9News Perth weather presenter Scherri-Lee Biggs, will see the news team visiting a local primary school at the start of each week to talk with students about key elements of meteorology and reporting, and allow an open forum for children to ask questions to enhance their knowledge.
Students will also receive an interactive weather booklet and activity sheet to assist learning, a mini-stationery set, and every school involved will be gifted a weather kit, adding a unique hands-on opportunity for students to put theory into practice and report on their school’s daily weather conditions.
Each school visit and the student’s reported data will be presented on the weekday Junior Weather Watch segment during Perth’s live and local bulletins, 9News Afternoon at 4.00 and 9News at 6.00.
Scherri-Lee Biggs is looking forward to visiting schools across Perth and calling on parents and teachers to start registering their class now for the opportunity to be involved.
“It’s been almost 15 years since Junior Weather Watch was last seen on 9News in Perth. It was so popular that as we now approach the warmer months, we felt the time was right to bring it back to engage and educate a whole new generation,”
