Final round applications for 37°South Market at MIFF closing soon – Producers and screen creatives alike have just one more week to apply for a place at this year’s 37°South Market with final applications closing Monday 3 June.
As Australia’s only screen content co-financing market to occur in the context of a major festival, the annual event will take place 8-11 August 2024, during the opening week of the Melbourne International Film Festival – the Southern Hemisphere’s largest and oldest film festival.
Attending participants will receive an exclusive passport to the global marketplace in Melbourne and the invaluable opportunity to get their pitch-ready projects or completed film in front of influential buyers and financiers amid an illustrious schedule of development programs, industry panels and networking events.
MIFF Acting Head of Industry Eddie Coupe said:
“We can’t wait to return this year with an exciting line-up of international guests already confirmed, some of whom we’re thrilled to be announcing today. We’re also overwhelmed by the volume and calibre of the submissions so far, reflecting an energised market with expanding opportunities for creative and commercial connections.”
Confirmed financing guests for this year’s 17th iteration of 37°South Market include AGC Studios, Neon, Universal Pictures International, Bankside, Charades and streaming service Tubi with more to be announced.
Other local and international buyers from previous events have included the likes of AMC, Amazon, AppleTV, BBC, Cornerstone, Disney+, Embankment, Endeavor, eOne/Sierra-Affinity, Federation, Film4, Film Nation, Foxtel, IM Global, Madman, Magnolia, Memento, Netflix, Pathe, Plan B, Protagonist, Stan and StudioCanal, while publishers have included Allen & Unwin, Hachette, Hardie Grant, Penguin Random House, Scribe, Text and many more.
Producers with pitch-ready, developed script-stage projects can attend the market’s core event, Bridging the Gap, while those with a completed film seeking world sales or local distribution are eligible to enter it into the Breakthru Screenings stream.
Selected writers, directors and creatives seeking local producers for their work can attend the Postscript & Direct program, while publishers and producers attending Books at MIFF will open discussion around manuscripts ripe for adaptation.
Other programs include Nexus, a unique event for IP rights holders to pitch their creative assets to producers for potential screen adaptations; while creative and business development modules Link Up and Team Up also run throughout the market. Leading screen executives and producers then discuss the pressing screen funding issues of the day during talks series State of Play (speakers to be announced closer to the date).
Through a strategic partnership, the top three producer pitches at 37°South Market, as voted by the attending sales agents, will be granted the only guaranteed places at Film London’s Production Finance Market (PFM), providing exclusive access for Australian and New Zealand producers at this significant global film marketplace.
