This is Going to Hurt on ABC – Six weeks on from Shruti’s death, and Adam is living miserably at his parents’ house.
It’s time for him to face the GMC employment tribunal. Lockhart gives him some ‘pragmatic’, toxic advice – he could use Shruti’s death to pin the blame on her.
Adam arrives at the tribunal, torn between telling the truth or keeping his job. When Adam stands up to speak, he surprises the shocked tribunal with an unprompted emotional outpouring. Whatever the outcome of the tribunal, Adam faces a dilemma: he isn’t even sure if he wants to do medicine any longer.
Adam goes for a coffee with Harry, and Adam tells him how hard he’s finding Shruti’s death. Adam says he’s considering giving up medicine, and hopes that there is a chance of a different future with Harry.
He asks Harry if he might at least consider coming to Greg’s wedding as his plus one. Harry isn’t sure if it’s a good idea, still wounded from Adam’s past betrayals.
At the hospital, Erika’s baby is finally well enough to be discharged from hospital, and Adam says an emotional farewell. Adam works with Tracy delivering a baby in a life-threatening shoulder dystocia. In the exhausted aftermath, Adam and Tracy make up, agreeing to put the GMC complaint behind them.
At Greg’s wedding, Adam holds out hope that Harry might come along, but it seems like he’s stood Adam up. Adam struggles along alone at the wedding, until he is overjoyed to find Harry showing up late. Harry and Adam escape the stuffy reception and make their own fun together. Adam is desperate to show Harry that he is changing and that their relationship could work again. But can Adam really give up medicine and find happiness with Harry?
