In this episode, we follow our ancestors as they step out of Africa and venture into the wider world. Recent DNA discoveries reveal that every human alive today whose origins are from outside Africa are descendants of a small group that migrated into the Middle East around 60,000 years ago.
In Sri Lanka we discover how we became the only human species to adapt to rainforests; on the Indonesian Island of Flores, we meet another human species – the tiny Homo floresiensis; and find out how we became the first human species to make the ocean crossing to Australia around 45,000 thousand years ago.
