Determined to set its path after the Civil War, Atlanta chose to modernise and be a beacon for anyone wanting to make it – or, as the locals call it – cut a shine.
This the home of Coca Cola, it’s where Muhammed Ali broke his ban on fighting, it’s where Martin Luther king fought discrimination and won. It’s brash and all concrete and steel and motorways – yet is one of the greenest cities in the world.
Griff then continues his journey up into the Appalachians, pushing west, meeting pioneers and joining in with the joyful hard and fast fingerpicking of bluegrass musicians.
