Grand Designs: New Zealand on ABC – When Felicity and Callum Brenchley bought their caravan with the idea of taking their children around New Zealand, they had absolutely no idea the effect it would have on their destiny.
It was while holidaying in a camping ground in Mahurangi, north of Auckland, that they spotted a piece of land for sale and, before they knew it, they’d bought the section, sold their house and architect Felicity was designing their forever home.
Felicity’s long, minimalist, sculptural design will hug the steep site, making the most of the incredible views out to the Hauraki Gulf.
The twenty-metre-long roof features an oculus skylight above a glass walled outdoor area and the circle theme continues in both the outdoor spa and repurposed water tank swimming pool.
The brick clad, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home will have brick screens shading the west facing windows and the interior will reflect Felicity and Callum’s mid-century aesthetic.
With a limited budget and a desire for perfection, Felicity is determined nothing will compromise her vision – even if means moving the family into their caravan and taking over the build itself when their money runs out.
