Extraordinary Escapes on ABC TV – Sandi Toksvig is fast turning into the nation’s most knowledgeable tour guide as she takes her next holiday companion in search of more extraordinary retreats in The Lake District.
This time, stand-up comedian, Taskmaster Star and Loose Women favourite , Judi Love, revels in wild, deer-filled valleys and equally wild choppy lakes, as she joins Sandi in three beautiful stay-cation hideaways.
In Ullswater, under glittering clear blue skies, the secluded Gaia Farmhouse, introduces Judi to the sights and sound of the rutting season and Sandi feels the heat when Judi cooks up an exceedingly spicy take on cottage pie for her host. For very different reasons, both experiences are breathe-taking.
On the trail of Beatrix Potter, the pair head to the Lingholm Estate and the unique ‘Boathouse’, that seems to float over a wild and stormy Derwentwater. Sandi and Judi take to the lake in a little boat and despite, or maybe because of the weather, and the choppiest of conditions, have a rollicking good time. Laughter rings out over the water.
Along the way Judi shares what motivates her and how she’s taken courage from brave inspirational women in her own family.
The trip concludes on the banks of Windemere in the opulent ‘Grey Gables’ where the pair properly unwind – with wine-time and home-made watercolour postcards.
