The ABC wins five Logie Awards – The ABC congratulates its outstanding 2023 TV Week Logie Award winners, including a second major triumph for Tony Armstrong in two years, taking out the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.

In front of the biggest names in Australian television, the ABC’s creative talent, agenda-setting journalism and world-class content was recognised last night with a total of five Logies at the ceremony at The Star in Sydney.

The ABC took home awards in the Most Popular Actress, Most Popular Presenter, Most Outstanding Children’s Program, Most Outstanding News Coverage and Most Popular Current Affairs Program categories.

The ABC dominated nominations, with a total of 45 presenters, personalities and programs shortlisted across all genres – from drama, lifestyle, comedy and entertainment to news and current affairs.

Three ABC personalities were nominated for the prestigious Gold Logie — Australian Story and former 7.30 presenter Leigh Sales, Mad as Hell host Shaun Micallef and Mystery Road: Origin actor Mark Coles Smith.  Last night, the coveted Gold Logie was won by Network Seven’s Sonia Kruger.

Kitty Flanagan, the star and creator of ABC hit program Fisk, won most popular actress while Crazy Fun Park was voted Most Outstanding Children’s Program.

ABC Chief Content Officer Chris Oliver-Taylor said:

“We are delighted with the number of nominations that the ABC received and thrilled for all of the ABC’s success including Werner Production’s Crazy Fun Park, Tony Armstrong’s A Dog’s World and Kitty Flanagan for Fisk.”

Armstrong, backing up from his 2022 Graham Kennedy Award win for most popular new talent, was acknowledged by ABC News Director Justin Stevens.

“Tony Armstrong has been a star since day one on the ABC, he is a massive talent and has a huge future in front of him,” Stevens said.  “We are thrilled to see him win back-to-back Logie Awards and can’t wait to see him flourish in coming years. As Tony has said, this is also recognition of the News Breakfast team and their outstanding teamwork day after day.“

Australian Story continues to produce captivating human-interest stories week after week that resonate with Australian audiences. Australian Story, this year presented by Leigh Sales, won Most Popular Current Affairs Program.

“Australian Story is a gem,” Stevens said.

“Week after week combining compelling storytelling with the highest quality journalism. For years the team has showcased the lives of countless Australians and inspired us with stories of resilience and inspiration.”

Foreign Correspondent earned the prestigious Most Outstanding News Coverage or Public Affairs Report award for its gripping report, Saving the Children, reported by Stephanie March.
